History

Tadcaster Community Choir was founded in 2017 by Christian Horton, with Craig Ratcliffe as Musical Director.

People had been asking Christian for many years to set up a community choir for people who simply enjoyed singing but did not necessarily read music.  He sorted the venue and local advertising, culminating in a very well attended first session on an autumn night in 2017.  It is testament to the choir ethos that many of those people are still members of the choir.

Having shaped us into a recognisable, performance ready choir, both Craig and Christian moved on.  We are now very fortunate to have Rosie Morris as our accompanist.  Rosie is a freelance pianist (and double bassist), who regularly performs at York theatres as well as teaching in and around York.

In April 2022 TCC were delighted to have Adam Tomlinson join them as their Musical Director.  The choir had an association with Adam as the MC of a number of their performances, and it is great that the choir is now feeling the benefit from his expertise as a musical director.  Adam has worked nationally on various productions, including UK tours of The Little Shop of Horrors, as well as working in many theatres around the UK. He was MD on the European tours of Jesus Christ Superstar, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. In the UK, Adam worked on pantomimes with Danny la Rue, Lorraine Chase, Fern Britton, Billy Pearce and the cast of ‘Allo ‘Allo, as well as touring with The Russ Abbot Madhouse, with Russ Abbot, Bella Emberg, Les Dennis and Sherrie Hewson, which included a season at the London Palladium.

Adam presented on BBC Radio York where he worked from 1992 until May 2023, he also presented for BBC Radio 3.

He continues to be a musical director on productions across the county, as well as challenging TCC with more chorale works and even some Sondheim!

TCC has grown in number, and is now enjoying seeing regular faces in the audience, as well as looking forward to performing more great music in and around Tadcaster.
